Quantum Mechanics Helps in Searching for a Needle in a Haystack
نویسنده
چکیده
Quantum mechanics can speed up a range of search applications over unsorted data. For example, imagine a phone directory containing N names arranged in completely random order. To find someone’s phone number with a probability of 50%, any classical algorithm (whether deterministic or probabilistic) will need to access the database a minimum of 0.5N times. Quantum mechanical systems can be in a superposition of states and simultaneously examine multiple names. By properly adjusting the phases of various operations, successful computations reinforce each other while others interfere randomly. As a result, the desired phone number can be obtained in only Os p N d accesses to the database. [S0031-9007(97)03564-3]

Quantum Mechanics helps in searching for a needle in a haystack
1. Introduction In 1994 Shor discovered a quantum mechanical algorithm for factorization that was exponentially faster than any known classical algorithm [1]. This paper presents a quantum mechanical algorithm for search that is only polynomially faster than any classical algorithm; however, it does not depend for its impact on the unproven difficulty of the factorization problem. The search pr...
متن کاملGrover’s Search Algorithm and Quantum Lower Bounds
Searching an item in an unsorted database with size N costs a classical computer O(N) running time. Can a quantum computer search a needle in a haystack much more efficient than its classical counterpart? Grover, in 1996, affirmatively answered this question by proposing a search algorithm [4], which consults the database only O( N ) times. In contrast to algorithms based on the quantum Fourier...

متن کاملMedical literature review: Search or perish
Literature review is a cascading process of searching, reading, analyzing, and summing up of the materials about a specific topic. However, searching the literature is like searching "a needle in a haystack", and hence has been called "Cinderella".(1) Therefore, skills and effective pathways of searching the literature are needed to achieve high sensitive and specific results.
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics and the Mechanism of Sexual Reproduction
There are many claims that quantum mechanics plays a key role in the origin and/or operation of biological organisms. The mechanism of the meiosis, mitosis and gametes life cycle from the view-point of quantum for human has been represented. The quantum gates have been used to simulate these processes for the first time. The reason of several hundred sperms has been explained in the male too
